چکیده

Acknowledgements First of all I would like to thank my supervisor Klaus Kassner for his overall support during the various stages of my Ph.D. studies. I am grateful for the pleasant working environment and many important learning opportunities. This work is the result of a fruitful collaboration with Laboratoire de Spec-trométrie Physique in Grenoble, where I spent numerous enjoyable research visits. I am indebted to Chaouqi Misbah for this opportunity and I would like to thank him for his great hospitality and many inspiring discussions. I am very grateful to Olivier Pierre-Louis for patiently explaining theoretical techniques and for many important discussions that helped to shape my understanding of step flow growth. I would also like to thank him for valuable comments on the manuscript of this thesis and for his great hospitality. I would like to thank Heike Emmerich for introducing me to the interesting field of crystal steps and for guiding me at the beginning of my Ph.D. work. My thanks go to Dorothea Erndt for invaluable help with administrative tasks and to countless former and current members of the physics department, especially Evgueni Zemskov, Peter Kohlert, and Thomas Fischaleck. I learnt quite a bit from them. I am grateful to Walfred Grambow from Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für paralleles Rechnen for managing a reliable and powerful computing environment which was indispensable for carrying out the numerical part of this work. Finally, and most importantly, I would like to thank my family for their unending support and love. I gratefully acknowledge financial help from the Deutsche Forschungsgemein-schaft and from the French-German cooperation programme PROCOPE.

Flow Re-Stabilizing Observation via Air Injection during the Rotating Stall through a Single-stage Axial Compressor by a 2-D Finite-volume Approach

The air-injection as an active flow stabilizing techniques, were numerically examined in current work, during the aerodynamic behavior and the characteristics of an axial compressor. At first, in design condition the characteristic curve was numerically captured for a specified test compressor. The computed results showed good agreements with those obtained from the experiments, to validate the...

Numerical Investigations of Planar Solidification of an Undercooled Liquid

We investigate evolution of a planar interface during unstable solidification of a pure undercooled liquid between two parallel plates. The governing equations are solved using a front tracking/finite difference technique that allows discontinuous material properties between the phases and interfacial anisotropy. The simulations produce some of the futures of the dendrit ic solidification which...

Nucleation and step-edge barriers always destabilize step-flow growth of a vicinal surface

We consider the effect of nucleation on a one-dimensional stepped surface, finding that step-flow growth is metastable for any strength of the additional step-edge barrier. The surface is made unstable by the formation of a critical nucleus, whose lateral size is related to the destabilization process on a high-symmetry surface. Arguments based on a critical nucleus of height two, which suggest...

Stall Vortex Shedding over a Compressor Cascade (RESEARCH NOTE)

The unstable flow with rotating-stall-like (RS) effects in a rotor-cascade of an axial compressor was numerically investigated. The RS was captured with the reduction in mass flow rate and increasing of exit static pressure with respect to design operating condition of the single rotor. The oscillatory velocity traces during the stall propagation showed that the RS vortices repeat periodically,...
